The BabyFit NFT collection is about to launch in April and as we get closer to the mint, we keep exploring the BabyFits universe. Today, let’s meet with their creator Samy Halim and discover the different variations of the BabyFits. Some of them have never been revealed before…

“Your vibrant portraits came up in my LinkedIn feed. I simply love it! Incredible work, congratulations. Would you be open for a collaboration designing athlete NFT portraits?” This is the very first message that Kevin, DEFIT founder, sent to Samy Halim, DEFIT artist.

First message sent by Kevin (DEFIT founder) to Samy — in French

At this very moment Kevin knew that If he was to launch an NFT collection for DEFIT, Samy was the artist he wanted to work with.

Samy, a French-Algerian artist, born in Algeria and trained at the Fine Arts School of Algiers in 1993 moved to France due to the Algeria Civil War in 1994. With no job, nor friends, Samy’s dream was to become a packaging designer and kept refining his art skills in Photoshop and Illustrator. Through his sheer determination and grind Samy landed his first job in a design studio and started a 15 years career as graphic designer and later art director in a famous French agency. But in 2011, Samy had a new dream. He decided to open his own studio and focus on his art while working for multiple world-known brands, such as Dior, Coca-Cola, Harper Collins, and Hilton to name a few.

Samy’s remarkable art and style is profoundly inspired by Art Deco in the 20s-30s, the Memphis-Milano design from the 80s-90s and some personalities like Grace Jones, a supermodel and singer from the 80’s as well as Jean-Paul Goude, a French visual artist.

Samy’s working experience in different fields as well as his childhood memories have also provided the nourishment to cultivate “Samy Halim style” vibrant colors, powerful shapes, and unique style. That’s the energy DEFIT wants to bring to its community.

“I hate replicating the same things as the others,” said Samy. So does DEFIT. Among hundreds of thousands of NFT collections, you can easily find similar characters over used with multiple derivatives which in the end all look alike. DEFIT is different, and so is Samy’s striking artwork.

Here began the making of the BabyFit collection. From the previous article you already know why we chose babies as DEFIT avatars but have you seen the diversity of our characters ? Let’s take a closer look!

The way we designed the BabyFits is to be as diverse as the DEFIT community is. We are coming from all over the world, we have different origins and backgrounds, different cultures and different ways of living. But DEFIT brings us together as one community. Our passion for sport and web3 unite us. This collection represents the people of this world.

If you follow us on twitter you are already familiar with some of these looks and you may also have taken part in the naming campaign for each of them. If not, it’s not too late, we are naming each of them until the end of March. It’s happening HERE!

Looking at the Babyfits, some of you may also get some United Colors of Benetton vibes from their ads started in the 80s showcasing kids from diverse origins called “All the colour of the world”.

You would be right as it has been also a source of inspiration for Samy: “Benetton is actually one of the 90s brand ads that left a strong memory in my mind. I always loved the playfulnesses, the diversity and the vibrancy of colors in those pictures”.

The BabyFit collection shares the same idea as these photographs: forget about being serious for a moment and have fun together!

Having fun together and including everyone no matter where you are, how you look and where you stand in your fitness journey is important to us.

Our diversity is our strength. We strive to promote inclusivity and diversity through the value of sport and our art. And our recent collaboration with Women in Web3 proves we walk the talk.

With this spirit in mind, we decided to create 2 additional BabyFit variations to the collection

In order to raise awareness on two very specific skin conditions there will be a very rare edition of Vitiligo and Albino BabyFits!

Although these skin conditions are different, albinism being a genetic disorder and Vitiligo being an autoimmune disease, both are due to a melanin production disorder resulting in patches of white skin (vitiligo) or a complete white appearance (albinism).

Both Samy Halim and the DEFIT team felt it was important to feature them into the collection especially with such beautiful designs! If you want to know more about these skin conditions HERE is a great article to understand what they are and what the differences are between both.

Only a few of us will have the chance to catch one of these as they come in very limited editions. And who knows? They may have specific attributes making them ever more unique!

Talking about attributes and characteristics of the BabyFits, in the next article we will go through all you need to know about the BabyFits gameplay in the DEFIT app for the upcoming Web3 Player mode! You definitely don’t want to miss this one!
